Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker has accused Premier League referee Mike Dean of ‘seeking attention’ following the official’s dismissal of Sofiane Feghouli.
The Algerian saw red in Monday’s clash between West Ham and Manchester United at the London Stadium after a late challenge on Phil Jones.
Although it was a foul, a direct dismissal seemed a little harsh on the the 27-year-old.
It was Dean’s second red card of the season following his dismissal of Nathan Redmond just five days prior – a decision that was noted as “harsh” by Sky Sports’ Jamie Redknapp.
But it appears the referee’s on-pitch manner is causing a stir too. Dean has hit headlines recently for a string of ‘no-look’ cards and kick offs.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Lineker said: “He does seem to seek a little attention on occasions.”
