Factory worker survives being impaled by 10 steel rods after ‘robot malfunction’

A factory worker survived being impaled by 10 large steel rods after a horror robot malfunction, it is reported.

The 49-year-old man, named only as Mr Zhou, was injured in a construction accident in Fuzhou, China, according to reports.

Ten steel nails pierced his body during the freak incident on December 4, reports said.

Mr Zhou was reportedly working a late shift when the rods, measuring 30cm long and 1.5cm thick, plunged into him, People’s Daily reports.

Six of the nails pierced his right shoulder and chest, and four went into his right forearm and wrist.

He was taken to the Xiangya Hospital where he had to have emergency surgery to remove the rods.

One of the nails was just 0.1mm away from tearing into an artery.

Despite it being a difficult and complicated operation, the steel rods were successfully removed by surgeons.

Mr Zhou is believed to be in a stable condition.

But he will need to undergo treatment and rehabilitation as part of his recovery.
